Knock it down and start again!

This project involved demolishing an almost derelict farmhouse and building a new five bedroom house. Usable materials like bricks were kept for re-use on the new garden walls.

This is a timber frame house designed by Native Architects to comply with the code for sustainable homes at level 4. This means that the wall, roof & floor construction are highly insulated. An innovative concrete slab base was used called Insulslab, triple glazed windows were installed throughout and a natural ventilation system called passivent installed. This ventilation system delivers fresh air to all the rooms via a small ceiling vent, without any electrically operated fans this reduces electricity over the lifetime of the building. The house is heated by a Biomass boiler using wood pellets as the fuel, this gives the house a low carbon footprint.
